Getting Down and Dirty to Photograph Shorebirds by Andy Rogers

Getting Down and Dirty to Photograph Shorebirds by Andy Rogers

What are Bird Photography Field Trips?

We travel to locations where birds are highly visible and easy to photograph.  We usually spend a lot of time at one place for a better chance of quality photographs.  Most of our bird photography trips are one-day trips to local photography hot spots, but occasionally we travel west to the coast, east to the Columbia Basin, north to British Columbia, or south to Oregon for a weekend photo trip.

Who would enjoy these trips?

All levels of bird photographers are welcome and all levels of fitness.  Since we sometimes carry heavy camera equipment, our trips are usually car trips, with only short walks to get to the best viewpoints.  Occasionally we will walk up to a mile or two (e.g., the Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary).

Birders are always welcome to join us; however, non-photographers may be uncomfortable with our slow pace since we concentrate on capturing great photographs of a few birds rather than seeing a lot of birds or rare birds.

Do we do anything special for Birdathon?

New in 2010!  We sponsor a Birdathon team who takes pictures of as many bird species as they can in one 24-hout period.

What do we do with our bird photographs?

We meet on the second Thursday of every month to share our images, plan trips, and learn Photoshop tips for editing our images.
