Al Borlin Park (Monroe) Field Trip (6/10/04) Highlights

Several Spotted Sandpipers were seen along the Skykomish River as the rainy weather closed in.

The low clouds made for excellent viewing of many Black Swifts and a few Vaux's Swifts. A Turkey Vulture and immature Bald Eagle soared above the trees. Two Common Mergansers were seen flying and then alternately perching on a tall snag which apparently was near a nest site. Western Wood-pewee, Willow and Pacific-slope Flycatchers were heard.

A Winter Wren burst into full song as did the Black-headed Grosbeak, Wilson's Warber, Cassin's Vireo, and Red-eyed Vireo. Swainson's Thrush voices filled the air with their ethereal song. Many Brown Creepers were up close and personal and continually singing. A Hairy Woodpecker was seen feeding a youngster. Upon leaving the park at noon, a Mourning Dove was seen perched on a wire over the road.

There were 5 birders and 36 species sighted.
