2006 Christmas Bird Count (12/16/06) Highlights
The Eastside Audubon CBC circle is centered just south of Beaver Lake on the Sammamish plateau. There usually are teams covering each of the seven areas in the circle. Counts for three backyards were also reported.
Because of downed trees in most areas due to the record windstorm on Thursday night, we could not cover the Pine Lake area and a number of parks were closed in other areas. However, we did have 92 species reported which was only exceeded by 93 in 2002, But, the total bird count of 11234, is the 2nd lowest over the past 13 years and compares to the average of 13246. We had a high count for the following species:
Trumpeter Swan – 166, previous high 29 in 2001.
