Bob Heirman Wildlife Area
This is a 343-acre county park with riparian, wetland and agricultural habitats. With this unique setting and outstanding natural resources, it offers a great location for viewing wildlife. This natural preserve encompasses within its boundaries vast open spaces, two pristine lakes, fragile wetlands, and an extensive river environment.
Getting There: From Interstate 405, take Highway 522 east, then Highway 9 north. In about seven miles, turn right on Broadway Avenue. In .8 mile, turn left on Connelly Road, and in another .8 mile turn left into the park. The address is 14913 Connelly, Snohomish, WA 98290
Where to go: Parking lot affords good views of shore, sandbars and islands. Also, walk down old road to river and 0.5 mile to oxbow bend in river. Also go to Fir Island Farm, Hayton Reserve, and Wylie Slough.
Setting: On the Snohomish River.
Best Time to See the Birds: Good year-round.
Birds Commonly Seen: Great Blue Heron, Green Heron, Canada Goose, Wood Duck, Mallard, Common Merganser, Bald Eagle, Northern Harrier, Red-tailed Hawk, Spotted Sandpiper, Mourning Dove, Rufous Hummingbird, Red-breasted Sapsucker, Downy Woodpecker, Northern Flicker, Pileated Woodpecker, Tree Swallow, Violet-green Swallow, Northern Rough-winged Swallow, Cliff Swallow, Barn Swallow, Bewick's wren, American Robin, Black-capped chickadee, Steller's Jay, American Crow, European Starling, Yellow warbler, Common Yellowthroat, Western Tanager, Spotted Towhee, Song Sparrow, Black-headed Grosbeak, Red-winged Blackbird, Brown-headed Cowbird, Bullock's Oriole, American Goldfinch.
Restrictions: Dogs are not permitted at this park.
