Totem Lake

Totem Lake - a little known urban birding gem located in Kirkland, WA on Seattle's Eastside. Totem Lake is a 27 acre wetland with an extensive bird population.

Getting There:  Totem Lake is adjacent to the Totem Lake Shopping Center on the east side of the 405 Freeway off the NE 124th St. exit in Kirkland.  Park on the street and follow the pathway to the wetland near Yuppie Pawn.  Local landmarks include the Bank of America and the Carlton Inn.

Setting:  Easy paved trails and a boardwalk with great views of the lake and surrounding marsh.

Best Time to See the Birds:  Early morning.

Birds Commonly Seen:  Complimentary copies of the bird list are located at the boardwalk interpretive sign.  Or go to http://www.birdercentral.com/totemcklst.htm

Restrictions:  Yuppie Pawn has placed a chain near the entrance to their parking lot which they use to secure the lot after hours.  If you park in their lot during their work day, please be sure to exit by their closing time or you may have to wait until the next morning to get out.  They are friends of  the wetland but need to secure their lot at night.
