Waterworks Gardens
Waterworks Gardens is a public park next to King County's South Treatment Plant in Renton, Washington. This is a place where art, technology and nature join in a unique way. Along with trails, public art, native plants and wildlife, the ponds and marshes of Waterworks Gardens filter and clean storm water from the treatment plant's 50 acres of roads, parking lots and hard surfaces.
Getting There: The treatment plant is located at 1200 Monster Road S.W., Renton WA 98057.
From southbound Interstate 405 ; Take Exit 1 (Tukwila/West Valley), at light, turn right onto Interurban Avenue S. then at the next light, turn left onto S.W. Grady Way. Continue on S.W. Grady Way and turn onto Longacres Drive S.W. Turn right onto Jackson Place S.W./Monster Road S.W. Instead of turning into the plant main entrance, continue on Monster Road S.W., go around the corner and up the hill. As you come down the incline, Waterworks will be on the right, just before you get to "T" intersection at Oakdale Avenue S.W. From northbound I- 5 take Exit 154 to I-405 North (Burien/Renton exit), move to right lane and proceed about 1/2 mile. Take Exit 1 (West Valley Highway), turn left onto Interurban Avenue S. at light, turn right onto S.W. Grady Way. Continue on S.W. Grady Way and turn onto Longacres Drive S.W. Turn right onto Jackson Place S.W./Monster Road S.W. Instead of turning into the plant main entrance, continue on Monster Road S.W., go around the corner and up the hill. As you come down the incline, Waterworks will be on the right, just before you get to "T" intersection at Oakdale Avenue S.W.
Where to Go: Just wander along the well marked paths and keep your ears open.
Birds Commonly Seen: Bushtits, Marsh Wrens Barn Swallows and Red-winged Blackbirds
Restrictions: The gardens are open between dawn and dusk year-round.
