The Old Sauk River Trail hugs the riverbank of this ecologically important and strikingly beautiful waterway for several miles. It passes through groves of old growth forest with hemlock and cedar as it parallels the river. We will be surrounded by ferns, mosses, other forest plants, like walking through a lush green rain forest.
Thousands of dwarf dogwoods, wood violets, twinflowers, and starflowers carpet the forest floor. In late June, we also expect to see bleeding hearts, false Solomon's seal, perhaps Indian Pipe and the elusive Coralroot.
Bring a sack lunch for an early meal at the leader's nearby cabin west of Darrington before we drive to the trailhead. Bring snacks and water for the walk.
Please contact Melinda if you are planning to join us, 425-827-5708 or BRONSON874@aol.com.
Meet at the Kingsgate P&R before 10:00 a.m. Passenger cost/person $16.
