A three mile round trip hike through beautiful alpine woods and meadows to a picturesque mountain lake. We may see the start of the autumn leaves changing colors and hopefully a few birds along the way.

The US Forest Service invites us to visit Chelan Ridge on Saturday, September 17, the weekend before the Raptor Migration program. This is the height of the songbird migration, so we will see both raptors and songbirds. An educator will be present to answer our questions. Bring a lunch for this all day trip. Meet before 7:30 a.m. at north end of Issaquah P&R: (I-90, exit 15, turn right (south) go to 2nd or 3rd light, then left into P&R lot). Passenger cost/person $9.00.

The Nisqually NWR offers a diverse combination of habitats and birds.

Bring a lunch. Plan to return late afternoon. We expect to see waterfowl, shorebirds, jaegers, gulls and terns. Meet before 7 a.m. at south end of Kingsgate P&R: (I-405, exit 20B northbound or 20 southbound at NE 124th St., go west to light at 116th Ave. NE, then right (north) a few blocks to P&R lot).

Explore this wetland located near the Everett Sewage Treatment Ponds.

Prepare for a full day of birding and explore Camano Island’s shoreline, salt-water marshes, grasslands, and forest habitats for seabirds, raptors, and songbirds.

Expect lots of saltwater waterfowl, cormorants and Great Blue Herons in the South Sound bays. We visit three state parks during the day, so if you have State Parks pass bring it with you. We will include Snake Lake in Tacoma if time permits.

Wintering birds here include dabbling ducks, gulls, rough-legged hawks, peregrines, merlins, and snowy owls.

This is a 343 acre reserve. It is 3-4 miles south of the town of Snohomish along the Snohomish R. Three lakes as well as marshes and wooded areas attract a large variety of birds. The trail also goes down to the Snohomish River. Bring a lunch.

On this drive through the farmlands of the Snoqualmie Valley we'll look for Bald Eagles and other raptors, and scope the ponds for a variety of ducks.

This 530-acre park on Magnolia Bluff has nine habitats within its boundaries.

Ducks and other waterfowl, seabirds, and gulls will be the focus of this trip as we scope the water at the marina as well as at the state park. We'll look for songbirds, too. Washington State Park decal or $5.00 parking fee required. Return late morning.

Explore the shores and waters of West Seattle along Elliot Bay and Puget Sound to Lincoln Park. Numerous viewpoints overlook the water and freighters, ferries and sea birds. Expectations include goldeneyes, scoters, gulls, Harlequin Ducks and shorebirds. Should be done by noon.

The Stanwood Sewage Treatment Ponds offer a variety of waterfowl and the occasional avian surprise. Bring a lunch and meet before 7 a.m. at south end of Kingsgate P&R.

Beginning Birding by Ear with Lou Ann Harris and Joyce Meyer.

We’ll walk the loop at the Game Range on Fir Island looking for migrating songbirds and returning sparrows. Then we’ll explore various spots with shorebirds, seabirds, and early arriving raptors as our focus. Bring lunch and meet before 7:30 at the south end of the Kingsgate P&R. Return late afternoon.

Dr. Julia Parrish will discuss the die-off of hundreds of marine birds on the beaches of Washington and Oregon.

Monica Van der Vieren, a Native Plant Steward from Washington Native Plant Society, will present a talk on "Native Plants that Local Birds Love."

We will take the ferry from Mukilteo and work the passage, and then look at forest, wetland, marsh, salt water, grasslands, and rocky edges. We'll be searching out loons, grebes, alcids, waterfowl, raptors, shorebirds, and passerines as we work our way the length of the island. If we have time we will stop at the Stanwood sewer ponds on the way home. Come prepared for any type of weather, bring lunch and fluids. Spotting scope helpful. May 15 (Friday) 8:00 a.m. - limited to 12 people Leader Hugh Jennings - The Nisqually NWR offers a diverse combination of habitats and birds. The delta is bounded by rivers on each side with marshes, deciduous woods and wide open areas easily accessed by a 5 mile loop trail.

May 17 (Sunday) 8 a.m. to about 2 p.m. - **Bird-A-Thon Trip** - Leader Kathy Andrich We will visit three very different parks in the Medina/Hunt's Point area during spring migration.

The refuge lies in southeastern Oregon, about 30 miles south of Burns, at an elevation of 4,100 feet. Burns is about 500 miles from Bellevue. The refuge, 183,000 acres, is composed of meadows, ponds and extensive wetlands surrounded by sage uplands and basalt rimrock. It is a major resting, nesting, and feeding area on the Pacific Flyway and is on Roger Tory Peterson's list of the ten best birding areas in the U.S. More than 320 species of birds and many species of mammals have been observed on the refuge. We will visit the main birding areas within the refuge, and usually see100-130 species.

Join veteran photographers to get the best photograph and raise money for Audubon!

Vashon Island contains a wealth of birding opportunities in May, from shorebirds at Point Robinson, to Purple Martins and Brant at Tramp Harbor, to Harlequin Ducks at the Tahlequah dock.

There are eight warblers that breed or migrate through King County and we will try to find all of them on this trip.

The Nisqually NWR offers a diverse combination of habitats and birds. The delta is bounded by rivers on each side with marshes, deciduous woods and wide open areas easily accessed by a 5 mile loop trail.

August 2 (Monday) 8 a.m. to noon This urban park offers a wide assortment of birds and habitats due to its varied ecosystems.

Leisurely 3-mile r.t. forest walk along river- no elevation gain. Dwarf dogwoods, twinflowers, and starflowers are abundant on the forest floor. This trip will focus on finding the elusive coral root and perhaps native ginger.

This 11-mile roundtrip Navaho Pass hike in the Teanaway River area is a great bird hike. Hiking time is about 6-7 hours, with a gradual elevation gain of 3,000 feet, on a very nice trail with some shade and lots of light, reaching a high point of 6,000 feet (where we’ll eat lunch overlooking the magnificent Stuart Mountain Range). Navaho Pass, in the North Fork Teanaway River area of Eastern Washington, is listed as one of the best bird hikes and is geared for fit, long-distance hiker-birders because it's 11 miles roundtrip. It's not a difficult hike, but the distance makes for a long day of hiking and can be tiring after 8-9 hours on the trail.
