Explore one of Lake Washington most wild sites.

Photograph backyard chickadees, red-breasted nuthatches, northern flickers, and juncos.

October 4 (Saturday) 7:30 a.m. Prepare for a full day of birding and explore Camano Island’s shoreline, salt-water marshes, grasslands, and forest habitats for seabirds, raptors, and songbirds. Areas may include Livingston Bay, English Boom, Utsalady, and Iverson Spit, a 100-acre preserve. The Stanwood Sewage Treatment Ponds offer a variety of waterfowl and the occasional avian surprise. (Tuesday) - October 21, 2008 Whidbey Island is a great birding location any time of the year. We will take the ferry from Mukilteo and work the passage, and then look at forest, wetland, marsh, salt water, grasslands, and rocky edges. We'll be searching out loons, grebes, alcids, waterfowl, raptors, shorebirds, and passerines as we work our way the length of the island. If we have time we will stop at the Stanwood sewer ponds on the way home. Come prepared for any type of weather, bring lunch and fluids. Spotting scope helpful. April 21 (Tuesday) 5:45 a.m. We will hit a number of locations in the Grays Harbor area looking for returning shorebirds.

May 15 (Friday) 8:00 a.m. - limited to 12 people Leader Hugh Jennings - The Nisqually NWR offers a diverse combination of habitats and birds. The delta is bounded by rivers on each side with marshes, deciduous woods and wide open areas easily accessed by a 5 mile loop trail.

May 17 (Sunday) 8 a.m. to about 2 p.m. - **Bird-A-Thon Trip** - Leader Kathy Andrich We will visit three very different parks in the Medina/Hunt's Point area during spring migration.

The refuge lies in southeastern Oregon, about 30 miles south of Burns, at an elevation of 4,100 feet. Burns is about 500 miles from Bellevue. The refuge, 183,000 acres, is composed of meadows, ponds and extensive wetlands surrounded by sage uplands and basalt rimrock. It is a major resting, nesting, and feeding area on the Pacific Flyway and is on Roger Tory Peterson's list of the ten best birding areas in the U.S. More than 320 species of birds and many species of mammals have been observed on the refuge. We will visit the main birding areas within the refuge, and usually see100-130 species.

May 26 (Tuesday) 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m We'll hike 6 to 7 miles while birdwatching the Umtanum Canyon trail, located in Yakima Canyon (between Ellensburg and Yakima).
