Festivals

  • TrailsFest at Rattlesnake Lake - July, 2009 - sponsored by Washington Trails Association
EAS shared a booth with Seattle Audubon Society - beautiful and inspiring venue with lots of eager visitors to our bird display.

Fall Celebration

In September we held a special celebration in the Snoqualmie Valley to welcome new East King County members to Eastside Audubon. As part of the King County Harvest Celebration Farm Tour, we sponsored a special environmental education event for kids at Dougherty Farm.  We also led two birding field trips along the Snoqualmie River in Duvall.  The week before the farm tour, we hosted an evening conservation presentation on local birds at the Duvall Depot.

Conservation Presentations

During 2010, we will be giving more conservation outreach presentations in several communities in our new East King County territory, to be selected from Carnation, Issaquah, Sammamish, Snoqualmie, and North Bend.

Each presentation will start with a show of lovely bird images, set to music and emphasizing the birds of Eastern King County.

Presentations will cover such topics as

  • Birds species that occur in the local agricultural valleys, riparian areas, forests, and urban habitats
  • Myths and facts about home feeding of birds
  • Backyard habitat ideas
      • Stop use of pesticides and herbicides
      • Increase use of native plants to increase bird habitat
  • Citizen Science Programs
      • Bird surveys in local areas
      • How to participate in Project FeederWatch and Great Backyard Bird Count
More serious topics might include
  • Climate Change
      • How climate change has already affected local birds
      • Predicted other climate change effects in East King County
  • How to time agricultural mowing to avoid killing breeding birds
  • How to stop lead poisoning in swans and waterfowl in the Snoqualmie Valley
  • Second growth forest and forested riparian habitat issues
