Duvall-Carnation-Fall City Area
Maureen Sunn is our key person in this area, which includes the Snoqualmie Valley. She would welcome another person to work with her on land use issues and would be happy to mentor them.
Note: Maureen is a past Conservation chair and "loves to persuade people to change their mind." For further inquiries, please email Maureen at sunnm@verizon.net.
Current Issues
- Shoreline Master Program Update 2009-2011
Maureen is working with Linda Scott, Carnation City Planner, on what bird surveys are needed along the Tolt and Snoqualmie Rivers. Also a possible shoreline restoration grant.- Organic farms - mowing for nesting birds
- 48-acre parcel on Fish Hatchery Road - wetlands protection
- Snoqualmie Wildlife Area - management issues
- Remlinger Farms - user conflicts from birders and walkers causing swans in nearby fields to flush (education is the key here; perhaps a partnership of TTSS, EAS, and WDFW could be useful - Martha Jordan)
- Swans Grace Snoqulalmie Valley (page 12)
- Lead poisoning in swans and waterfowl - getting fishing gear changes on some lakes is needed (not touching the steelhead river fisheries, but some lakes with users of small lead weights and swivels; see resources - Martha Jordan)
- Project of interest - Lower Tolt River floodplain restoration
Habitat Already Protected in the Snoqualmie Valley
(and wonderful places to get outside and enjoy nature)
