Native Plant Walks
What Are Native Plant Walks?
If you like leisurely-paced walks or hikes, you are in the right place. We enjoy identifying native plants, but we also like to take our time and really look at how native plants, trees, mosses and lichens, birds, butterflies, and other wildlife fit into their habitat.
How Strenuous Are Our Trips?
We offer everything from very easy trips (e.g., by car to multiple locations, a very slow mushroom walk on an accessible path, etc.) to easy (leisurely 1-2 mile walks) to moderate (leisurely hikes up to 4 miles, 500 ' elev. gain).
Do We Always Have a Native Plant Expert on our Trips?
The trip leader may or may not be a native plant expert; however, we usually have several people on our trips with a good knowledge of native plants and birds. Sometimes a native plant steward will join us (graduate of the Washington Native Plant Society Stewardship Program) and sometimes we will bring our guide books and share knowledge about plants and birds among ourselves.
We occasionally schedule trips to restoration areas in the Seattle urban area; these are led by a habitat restoration expert.
Are Guests Welcome On Our Trips?
Yes, we love to have guests on our walks (see guest policy link below).
How Can I Become More Involved with Native Plant Walks?
- Join the Native Plant Walk mailing list
- Lead one of our walks or hikes (no plant ID skills required)
- Bring your native plant or naturalist skills on a trip to help other people learn about flora and fauna in their environment.
