Grants and Scholarships
We offer a variety of grants and scholarships to further our mission of connecting people with nature. Learn more about what we do and how you can participate in one of these programs.
Len Steiner Grant Fund - For Science Teachers
Len Steiner, one of our founding members, has been a long-time member of Eastside Audubon, and served on the Board of Directors for many years.
In 2008 the Board of Directors set up the Len Steiner Grant Fund to honor Len for all his hard work, and committed to contribute up to $500 each year in support of this fund.
This grant money is available, in increments of $150 grants, to Eastside elementary and secondary teachers for environmental projects in their classroom.

Brian Gershon Scholarship Fund - For College Students
In 2004, our Board of Directors set up the Brian Gershon Scholarship Fund. Brian was a long-time Board Member who brought us into the electronic age, developing our first web page in 1997.
Brian received a master's degree in Environment and Community at Antioch University Seattle and has since committed his skills to community development and lessening the impact of business on the environment through his work with the Business Alliance for Local Living Economies, and through his own business RagingWeb.com.
At the time the Brian Gershon Scholarship Fund was set up, our Board of Directors committed to supplement the grant up to $500 per year.
The scholarship is awarded to an Eastside senior high school student who has demonstrated a commitment to science with special emphasis on the environment and who plans to pursue these interests at the college level. In 2008 the scholarship was awarded to Carsten Hansen a senior at Lake Washington High School who will attend Cornell University in the fall.
Amy McQuade Kid's Camp Scholarship - For Summer Camps
Amy McQuade, one of our founding members, served on the Board of Directors for nearly 25 years and proved herself to be a great leader and inspiration. Amy passed away in February, 2008.
In 2006 two anonymous donors pledged up to $6,000 as seed money for the Amy McQuade Camp Scholarship fund - if the Board of Directors could raise matching funds. Our members saw that this was a worthy cause and matched almost the whole $6,000.
Our goal is to send low-income students to a week's summer camp that focuses on the natural world and/or natural sciences.
In 2007 seven campers attended a variety of summer camps, and in 2008 eight children have gone to camp.
