Community Outreach Events
In addition to our school workshops and participation in chapter outreach events, the Youth Education Committee reaches out into the community in several other ways.
Booths at Environmental Fairs
In 2008, youth education volunteers staffed booths and tents at:
- Hollywood Hills Elementary science fair, March 18
Service Learning Projects
- Enatai Park - we secured permission from Bellevue Grounds Department in December, 2008, to plant native plants at the park with second graders from Karen Greytek’s classroom at Enatai Elementary.
Presentations at Local Parks and Camps
In 2008 youth education volunteers gave workshops at:
- Lewis Creek Park
- Mercer Slough Nature Park - in May we participated in the Bellevue Parks & Community Services’ Natural Resource Week, an outdoor environmental education event for local 4th and 5th grade students.
We gave 30-minute presentations on Birds and the Environment, Field Guides, Binoculars, and Identifying Birds in Trees to four different groups of students.- Peter Kirk Camp - we gave a presentation and took campers on a bird walk at Juanita Bay this summer.
