2008 Brian Gershon Award
In 2008 the Brian Gershon Scholarship was awarded to Carsten Hansen, a senior at Lake Washington High School. Hansen was presented with a check for $500 at our June monthly meeting.
After graduating from high school, Hansen, an ardent environmentalist, now attends Dartmouth College, where he is pursuing a double major in Environmental Studies and Economics. He then plans to attend law school, where he will concentrate on environmental law.
At Lake Washington High School, Hansen excelled academically, maintaining a 3.8 G.P.A. and taking Advanced Placement classes. In addition, Hansen distinguished himself as a leader among his peers. Instrumental in founding the Environmental Club, he also was one of a few select students nationwide chosen to do research at Denali National Park. President of the Model United Nations, Hansen was awarded the prestigious “Best Delegate Award for Washington State.” And these are just a few of his accomplishments.
“I’ve sought to create positive change in the world around me,” Hansen says, and his actions certainly bear that out. We are pleased to be able to offer this award to such an outstanding young man.
