Crows of the Eastside
Compiled by Corvid Crier editor Penelope Kipps
The “UW Bothell Crows” have been famously known and a much loved natural phenomenon in the East King County area. As many as 10,000 - 16,000 crows would arrive at dusk, streaming in from all directions as they settle in to roost.
But these crows are now moving to a new location. If you are hoping to witness the amazing spectacle of these crows, UW Bothell is no longer the best spot. The crows have moved to Willows Road in Redmond, near the golf course. We got word from one of our members, “The crows start high on the hill and then moved down to a lower area as it got dark, but they were still within sight from Willows Road.”
Please be sure to respect the birds as well as local traffic conditions when viewing these birds. As with any wildlife viewing, it is advised to keep a healthy distance and observe these birds from vantage points in safe parking spots using binoculars, without disturbing their behavior or nearby habitats.
