In the quiet of the woods the bubbling song of the Ruby-crowned Kinglet erupted, and the high trill of the Brown Creeper signaled its presence. The hormonal drive to breed had birds singing regardless of the weather.

Eastside Audubon’s Bird of the Month for January 2019 is the Pacific Loon. A western U. S. specialty, the Pacific Loon is most well known as a spring and fall migrant along the Pacific coast.

Eastside Audubon’s Board of Directors hired Sheila Ritchie as executive director in August 2018 to lead the organization. Sheila comes to the chapter from Homeward Pet Adoption Center in Woodinville, where she managed fundraising.

Eastside Audubon's big day of birding for science is December 15th. Count birds on your own or as part of an EAS team from early morning through late afternoon, then join us for a celebration dinner from 4:30 pm to 6 pm at the chapel at Northlake Unitarian Universalist Church in Kirkland.

Last month’s column on the potential benefits of breaching the four federal dams on the lower Snake River elicited a response that questioned those benefits and the need to breach the dams. The response led me to investigate this idea more thoroughly and I found a tremendous amount of information.
