Overview: We will visit several Island County parks on the way to Marrowstone Point and Fort Flagler State Park looking for wintering sea birds including murrelets, loons, grebes, Common Murres, Pigeon Guillemots, Bonaparte’s Gulls, and some shorebirds. After taking the 7:10 a.m. ferry from Edmonds to Kingston, this full-day trip will cross the Hood Canal Bridge and proceed north to the tip of the Kitsap Peninsula and if time allows go on to Port Townsend. We will aim to return on the 4:40 p.m. ferry from Kingston. Bring binoculars, scopes will also be helpful, lunch, snacks, and liquids. Dress warmly in layers and bring rain gear (good against the cold as well as the rain).
Distance & Pace: The trip requires some lengthy drives with about 10 stops. Leisurely walk.
Terrain: Walks at the stops will be short and on level ground.
Notes: Please plan to be outdoors with whatever water, snacks, sunscreen, bug repellent, or other supplies you may need.
