Volunteer naturalists at Juanita Bay Park

Juanita Bay Park is 110 acres of wetland, marsh, and shoreline on Lake Washington at 2201 Market Street in Kirkland. Nearly 200 species of birds have been recorded here, along with beaver, river otter, painted turtles, and the occasional coyote, and two miles of paved trail and boardwalk bring visitors right to the water's edge. The Eastside Audubon Kirkland Rangers are the volunteers who help you understand what you are seeing.

The Rangers began as a City of Kirkland volunteer program and have been part of Eastside Audubon since 2010.

Join a free walk

Rangers lead a free interpretive tour on the first Sunday of every month at 1:00 pm. The walk is easy, lasts about an hour, and runs year-round in any weather. Children six and older are welcome with an adult. No registration is needed; just meet at the park entrance.

Every season offers something different. Winter brings loons and trumpeter swans to the bay, spring fills the alders with warblers and swallows, and summer evenings belong to the beavers. Rangers also lead pre-arranged tours for schools, scouts, and community groups.

Become a Ranger

You do not need to be an expert. Rangers are curious people who enjoy the park and want to share it. Eastside Audubon provides training, materials, and insurance coverage, and rangers receive a free Eastside Audubon membership.
