Marrowstone Island and Port Townsend

Join us for a full day of birding on the northeast corner of the Olympic Peninsula to view a wide variety of wintering seabirds and shorebird including murrelets, scoters and Long-tailed Ducks.

Shorebirds such as Black Turnstones, Black Oystercatchers, and Sanderlings can be expected. Ducks and specialty sparrows will also feature.

We will leave promptly at 6:15 a.m. After taking the 7:10 a.m. ferry from Edmonds to Kingston, this full-day trip will cross the Hood Canal Bridge and proceed north to the tip of the Kitsap Peninsula and if time allows go on to Port Townsend. We will aim to return on the 4:40 p.m. ferry from Kingston.

Bring a Discovery Pass if you can drive, money for carpooling and ferry. $12 plus share of ferry fees for non-drivers to be paid directly to driver. This is a long day of birding but well worth it. The weather can challenge some years.

Pack a lunch, bring treats to share if you wish, dress warmly and bring another layer along for blustery weather. It can be breezy by the water.

Bringing binoculars and spotting scopes will be helpful. Cameras are welcome as scenery is almost as beautiful as the birds. Some bird song playback may be used. Accessibility is good. Walking will be short distances on level ground or beach in most places. We will get into and out of the car multiple times.
