August Program Night: A Look at the Fall City Wetland Restoration Project

  • Bellevue Botanical Gardens 12001 Main Street Bellevue WA, 98005 (map)

Join us at the Program Night in August to learn how Eastside Audubon is partnering with King County and Fall City residents to restore a wetland damaged by flooding over a decade ago.

Robert Swan is an award-winning Instructor of Forestry and a Ph.D Candidate at the University of Washington, with research and teaching focused on forest and ecosystem hands-on management that balances multiple conflicting objectives. He has a great passion for agroforestry and annually grows and gives away thousands of nut tree seedlings. He runs the University of Washington chapter of the Society of American Foresters as well as the University of Washington Beekeeping club. He grew up in the suburbs of Seattle, and spends much of his free time volunteering, mentoring students, or gardening with his wife Audrie. Read more from Robert and see a cool beekeeping video here!

This Program Night will take place in person at the Bellevue Botanic Gardens. Robert will discuss an exciting project taking place just outside of Fall City to create and restore a recently acquired 20 acre wetland-pasture parcel that balances public access and natural ecosystem functioning. This site has stakeholders from many different groups collaborating to create a functional space that can be used for community engagement, education, habitat, and data collection.

Excitingly, students from the University of Washington will be taking the lead in designing the site plans, and community members and students from Fall City will be invited to get their hands dirty contributing to restoring and improving the site!

Join us to learn how this inspiring partnership is bringing nature, learning, and community together.
