Help Capture Carbon by Planting Trees

Supporting birds means that you are also supporting the natural cycles of life, helping to create an environment that is not only welcoming to our feathered friends but the bees, bugs, native plants and more. Planting trees is a great way to help stabilize an ecosystem. Carbon capture is one of the most effective methods for mitigating climate change.

Eastside Audubon has partnered with the Carbon Capture Foundation to give away free trees to our community members, and there’s still time to sign up! If you have, or know someone that has, a backyard big enough to plant trees, or have a desire to bring more native plants into your yard, this is a great opportunity.

We will be distributing the trees Saturday, Feb 17th, from 9 am – noon, at the Audubon Bird Loop restoration area, Lot G, Marymoor Park.

The trees will be bare root which means they should be planted as soon as possible and will require more care than potted specimens.  Although the trees will only be between 1’ and 3’ tall when they arrive, you’ll need to allow plenty of room because they will grow into big trees.  The species that will be available are Bigleaf Maple, Douglas Fit, and Garry Oak.

If you know someone who could use some trees, or could use some trees yourself, please spread the word! Let’s do our part to assist the natural balance of our environment.
