Photo of the Month: August

Brian Elieson Wins Eastside Audubon Photo of the Month for August

Brian Elieson won the Eastside Audubon Photo of the Month award for August for his photograph of a Western Tanager.

The photograph also won the photography group’s monthly theme, “Summer Heat.” The bright yellow and orange colors of the tanager, combined with the bird basking in the summer sun, provided a strong fit for the theme.

Brian took the photograph in mid-July at Finley National Wildlife Refuge outside Corvallis, Oregon. Despite the warm temps, the young tanager remained still in the bright sunlight near the entrance to the wildlife offices, giving Brian a rare opportunity to capture the bird in a moment of quiet stillness.

The photograph was taken with a Nikon Z8 and a 300mm lens at ISO 250, 1/1250 second and f/5.6.
