Joe Siebert Wins Eastside Audubon Photo of the Month Award in August

Joe Siebert is the August winner of the Eastside Audubon Photo of the Month award for his photograph of a Hudsonian Godwit captured during a birding trip to Manitoba, Canada.
“In May and June, my wife Linda and I participated in a birding tour of Manitoba,” Joe says. “Most days we saw Godwits wading in shallow water, but on one occasion, we spotted one hidden deep in the dried grasses next to a marsh. This view was a bit different, as it obscured much of the bird’s body, but it caught some of the mystery of the tundra. Look carefully, the bird seemed to say!”
Joe shot the photo using a Canon R7 body with an RF 100–500 mm lens. His settings were 1/200 sec, f/7.1, and ISO 800. He notes that he underexposed the image by one-third stop to protect the highlights in the pale grasses.
