Kyle Callahan Wins Eastside Audubon Photo of the Month Award in September
Kyle Callahan is the September winner of the Eastside Audubon Photo of the Month award for his photograph of an American White Pelican taken at the Baylands Preserve near Palo Alto, California.
“Who knew that some of the best birding during our central California coast trip would be on our final day,” Kyle says. “Several large pelicans circled overhead and landed in the estuary alongside the Adobe Creek Loop Trail. They swam beside us for over half a mile, giving us plenty of opportunity to watch and photograph them. In full mid-morning sunlight, their large yellow-orange bills and brilliant white feathers were striking.”
Kyle used a 600 mm lens with the following settings: ISO 100, 1/1000 sec, f/8.0. The image captures the scale and elegance of one of North America’s largest water birds.
