Mike Hoefgen Wins Eastside Audubon Photo of the Month for February
Photo Details
Focal Length: 500mm | Shutter Speed: 1/800sec | Aperture: f/5.6 | ISO: 320
Mike Hoefgen won the Eastside Audubon Photo of the Month award for February for his photograph of a short-eared owl taken in Edison, WA.
“I was disappointed at first because it was not facing me,” Mike said. “Eventually it turned its head so I could get both eyes in focus.”
Mike began the day at the Skagit Wildlife Area, where he photographed the sunrise with Mount Baker and Trumpeter Swans. He then drove to East 90 and found about 10 photographers along the road. The owl was perched on a pole about 70 feet away. It later flew over a field hunting and landed about 30 feet from where he stood, giving him the opportunity for the winning shot.
Mike shot with an OM System OM1 Mark II and an OM SYSTEM M. Zuiko 150-400mm f/4.5 TC 1.25 IS PRO lens. For this image, he used a focal length of 500 mm, a shutter speed of 1/800 second, an aperture of f/5.6 and ISO 320.
