Eastside Audubon is finalizing a new agreement with the Redmond Library to host our program nights which will provide a fixed, consistent location for our monthly events. It will solve a challenge the EAS program night committee has faced in finding suitable rooms each month for a reasonable cost. With the new partnering agreement, King County Library System’s Redmond Library will reserve one of their meeting rooms for EAS use for free on a consistent evening each month and they’ll help publicize our program night speakers. We believe KCLS’s additional publicity will attract new interest and participation in our events and expand our visibility in the community.
As part of this change, program nights will move to Wednesday nights beginning in September. We also plan to expand the time before the speakers’ presentations to allow more social time for audience members. Since the library closes at 8 p.m., the start time for program nights will be earlier than they previously have been, likely starting at 6 p.m. We are currently finalizing the agreement and arranging for our September speaker, so please watch the Eastside Audubon calendar for details about the September 23rd program night.
The EAS program night committee has five dedicated and imaginative volunteers who work to find, schedule, and introduce our speakers each month: Debbie Bensussen, Eugenia Yen, Claire Waltman, John Spilker, and myself. Eugenia Yen was especially instrumental in reaching out to the King County Library System and helping to establish the agreement. I’m very grateful to Eugenia and all the committee members for their work. We believe the new partnership with the Redmond Library will benefit our members, our organization and the community, and allow more people to learn about and appreciate the birds around us.
