Photo of the Month: September

Margaret Larkin Wins Eastside Audubon Photo of the Month for September

Margaret Larkin won the Eastside Audubon Photo of the Month award for September for her photograph of a Northern Hawk Owl taken in British Columbia.

The shot was part of the photography group’s monthly theme, “Predators in Action.” The owl’s intense gaze and its grip on its catch made the image a strong fit for the theme.

“We were fortunate enough to be able to see this owl in British Columbia,” Margaret said. “When we arrived at the location there were photographers around it, the owl took off and landed in a tree right above us, looking down at us with his catch. His fierce stare said that he was not about to share.”

The image was taken at a focal length of 560mm with a shutter speed of 1/1000 second, an aperture of f/8 and ISO 1000.
