Nancy Tom Wins Eastside Audubon Photo of the Month Award in December
Black-necked Stilt by Nancy Tom
Nancy Tom wins the Eastside Audubon Photo of the Month award for her image of Black-necked Stilts photographed in Florida. The winning photo captures a mated pair foraging together at Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge.
“This past March I went to Florida on my second bird photography trip,” Nancy says. “These Black-necked Stilts are a mated pair. They foraged together, and I later witnessed their special moment. It is still shocking how fast birds mate.”
Nancy visited Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge after missing it on a previous visit. The refuge provides important habitat for shorebirds, making it a reliable place to observe feeding and pairing behavior. Her image documents a quiet but meaningful interaction between the two birds as they move through shallow water together.
